Peel Regional Police say their official Twitter account was briefly hacked late Monday night spewing vulgar, racist messages to followers.

It appears the account was hijacked around 9 p.m. by someone posing as controversial YouTube personality “Keemstar.”

Insp. Dan Richardson confirmed the hack took place but police managed to regain control of the account just before 10 p.m.

The real “Keemstar” issued a brief video statement on Twitter confirming he wasn’t responsible for the hack.

However, in his rant, he mistakenly said the police department was from Mississippi when in fact Peel police serve Mississauga and Brampton, Ont.

Richardson said the Peel police Twitter account will be back up Tuesday.
