The body found in Lynn Creek on Sunday morning has been identified as a 34-year-old man who has been missing since May 19.
A missing persons investigation was opened on May 26 after Jastinder Athwal had not been seen by his family and friends for a week.
On Sunday, just before 9 a.m., North Vancouver RCMP and fire department were called after reports of a body being found beneath the train bridge. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the case as the cause of death was unknown and homicide could not be ruled out.
On Monday, it was confirmed the victim was Athwal and his family was notified.
An autopsy will be performed this week to determine the cause of death and if foul play is a factor. Until the results of the autopsy are known, IHIT will not be releasing any other information.
Anyone with information about Athwal following his disappearance on May 19 is asked to contact the IHIT tipline 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers.
