KELOWNA — Police are investigating what they call “obscene acts” committed in the yard of a Kelowna home earlier this week. Police say an 18-year-old man has been identified as the possible suspect.
RCMP say around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a report of trespass, mischief and theft from a property in the 1900 block of McDougall Street came in.
It turns out the suspects, a man and a woman, decided to climb into the homeowners hot tub after peering into the windows of the home and they got “comfortable” while in there.
“The suspects were captured on video surveillance as they consumed alcohol, smoked cigarettes and engaged in physical relations,” said Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a news release.
O’Donaghey says police believe the duo may have had more than one motivation for being in the tub.
“The thing we’re concerned about as well is that the individuals were seen looking into the windows of the home,” he said.
“There was a family at home at that time, and that usually indicates that they had indications of maybe breaking into the residence.”
Nearby residents say trespassers are common in the area — which is right next to the beach and adjacent to the William R. Bennett Bridge — but security has improved in recent months.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
