A fire ban in Strathcona County was lifted Monday morning thanks to cooler temperatures and the considerable rain that has fallen in the area over the past few days.
Lifting the ban means fire permits are now valid, but officials still want residents to be cautious.
“We ask residents to remain cautious with any burning as conditions may change. Even with the recent rain, it can take only a few days for the risk to increase again due to the pre-existing dry conditions,” Strathcona County Fire Chief Iain Bushell said.

Permit holders are being reminded to phone the burning information line to make sure burning is allowed at that time.
Fire permits aren’t needed for recreational fires like fire pits with a screen, pots or bowls. Smudge fires are allowed with a burn permit in rural areas on land that’s two acres or larger.
Sixty-nine millimetres of rain fell in Edmonton from Thursday to Sunday.
