Fire in Coquitlam forces elderly couple from home

An elderly couple has been forced from their home in Coquitlam after it was gutted by flames Friday night.

Firefighters rushed to the blaze at Delestre Avenue at Nelson Street at around 11:30 p.m. They arrived to find flames engulfing the first floor of the two-storey building.

The couple made it out safely and were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and then taken to hospital as a precaution.

Fire investigators will be at the scene for most of Saturday.
