PENTICTON – The prosecutor wanted a six month jail sentence but the judge thought that was too lenient.

Instead, a man who pleaded guilty to two break-and-enters in Penticton was handed a nine month sentence and 18 months probation.

Sheldon Edward Evans, 30, was arrested a month ago following a foot chase after he broke into the Barley Mill Brew Pub through a skylight and stole liquor and cigarettes.

Two weeks earlier, Evans burglarized the offices of the Penticton and District Society for Community Living.

In sentencing Evans, the judge noted the large number of business break-and-enters in Penticton this year.

The defence lawyer was asking for a conditional jail sentence to be served in the community.
