A home in the Calgary suburb of New Brighton suffered extensive damage after a fire broke out there late Tuesday afternoon.
Fire crews were called to the 100 block of New Brighton Drive S.E. just before 5 p.m.with heavy smoke seen from across the city.
Hooria Ashfaq, a twelve-year-old who lives nearby, saw the flames and banged on the door to alert the person inside the home.
“I saw that the house’s side – the upper left corner – was on fire. I was super panicked,” Ashfaq said. “Just in 30 seconds, the fire grew into this big big thing. It was horrible to watch.”
Luckily, no one was hurt. The person inside the home was able to escape without injury.
Crews used a ladder truck to attack the flames which were breaking through the roof.
No word yet on the cause. The investigation continues.
