Construction of Calgary’s Child Advocacy Centre underway

Construction is officially underway on a new city facility designed as a safe haven for children who have suffered abuse.

The doors of Calgary’s Child Advocacy Centre are scheduled to swing open later this year.

The centre, which will focus on the prevention of child abuse and treatment of child abuse victims, brings together four agencies: Calgary and Area Child and Family Services, Calgary Crown Prosecutors, Calgary Police Service, and Alberta Health Services.

It’s the first time all four agencies will be together under one roof.

The centre is designed for children aged 17 and under, and will house everything from front-line social workers and medical experts, to therapists and police officers.

All of the workers at the centre will be striving to support children and their families who have experienced abuse, while improving communication and furthering justice when a crime has been committed.
