MONTREAL – A local family-run company that sells clothing around the world is on its way to making a difference for the people of Fort McMurray.
Hatley is donating about $25,000 worth of clothing.
The shipment is expected to arrive in Edmonton on May 10.
“Like every Canadian, I saw the news on TV this weekend and when I saw the list of items they were looking for — pyjamas and underwear — I realized I have a lot at Hatley,” said co-owner Jeremy Oldland.

The shipping department at the company’s production plant in Lasalle, southwest of Montreal, was in overdrive on Monday.
Employees were thrilled to find out they would be helping the thousands of displaced families from Fort McMurray with a massive contribution of 5,000 garments.

“We specialize mostly in children’s clothing,” said worker Ray McLean.
“It’s important that your kids have the basics of what they need.”
Hatley’s workers said they could only imagine what it would be like to lose everything and most said they are relieved to be able to chip in.
“I want to be a fireman” said worker Nick Dolen.
“It sucks just watching and you can’t do anything about it.”
The list of donations is still being finalized with the Edmonton Emergency Relief Services Society.
“It’s the least I could do, frankly,” Oldland told Global News.
“We got a lot of following, a lot of stores out west so people know the Hatley brand and I’m happy to help out.”
The company is also offering to match all online purchases at Hatley.com over the next week, to add to the donations destined to the people of Fort McMurray.

“I think it’s very important to help others,” said worker Otisha Bushay.
“Sometimes you’re gonna need the help and it’s really hard to start over, so contribute where you can.”
WestJet has offered to cover the shipping costs.
