Make it so, Canada Post. Make it so.

Canada’s postal service has announced a special project to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek and Canada’s connection to the beloved sci-fi series.

Starting Thursday, May 5, Trek fans can access and purchase the full collection of special commemorative stamps online as well as in-store. There are many variations on just straight stamps, including lenticular images of the U.S.S. Enterprise on postcards and larger posters.

The main players of the original Star Trek series are featured on the stamps, including Canuck actors William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, James Doohan as the lovable engineer Scotty, and John Colicos as Klingon Commander Kor. Spock, too, can claim a connection to our country via Vulcan, Alta., which shares its name with his home planet. Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy rounds out the group.

“I think most Canadians are ‘inner Trekkers’ because we grew up with Star Trek over the past half-century, and it’s part of who we are,” said Jim Phillips, Director of Stamp Services at Canada Post. “But what makes this issue extra special is that it shows the world the cool connection Canada has with the final frontier — and that’s something we’re all very proud of.”

“We’re paying homage to a series that was big, bold, and mind-blowing, so we’re breaking new ground ourselves — issuing amazing, special-effects stamps and more one-of-a-kind and limited-edition collectibles than we ever have in the history of the postal service. This is going to be big, and move at warp 9,” he said with a laugh.

The U.S.S. Enterprise and a Klingon D7-class battle cruiser blast their way onto the coil stamps, while two special-effect lenticular stamps allow for continuous reruns of classic scenes. Along with a prestige booklet, official first day covers, souvenir sheets, uncut press sheets, panes and booklets, fans will discover a galaxy of memorabilia, including postcards and stamp dispensers.

Four limited-edition items add to the fleet of collectibles: a framed print signed by William Shatner, a framed stamp pane with a gold-ink postmark of the Enterprises trusty shuttlecraft, a lenticular enlargement, and a lenticular uncut press sheet, which is a first for any postal administration.
