Calgary police search for suspect in violent home invasion

Officers were called to a home on Memorial Drive and 36 Street SE after a violent home invasion at around 11 p.m. Saturday night.

Police said a man in his 40s suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital in non life-threatening condition.

A man armed with a handgun broke into the home in the 100 block of Fonda Mews SE and confronted two men and a woman who were inside.

Police said the suspect stole personal property before attempting to run away, however, one of the men grabbed the suspect and a struggle ensued.

The victim was shot during the confrontation and the suspect fled the home.

Calgary police continue to investigate and are searching for the suspect.

Investigators believe it was a targeted incident and are looking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

He’s described as a darker-skinned man, 5’7″ tall, approximately 140 pounds and between 25 and 30 years old with a thin mustache.

He was wearing a grey baseball hat, grey hoodie and sweat pants.

Police said it doesn’t appear the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Calgary police or Crime Stoppers.
