Two families have been forced from their Burnaby homes after a two-alarm fire Sunday morning.
Flames broke out on the second floor of an apartment complex at Balmoral Street and Griffiths Avenue just after 8:30 a.m. Smoke billowing from the building could be seen from several blocks away.

Thirty firefighters were at the scene and managed to contain the flames to one unit but a suite above did suffer damage.
Sadly, crews found a dead dog inside.
No word yet on a cause.
