Woman Tasered and arrested in downtown Kelowna

KELOWNA – RCMP officers used a Taser stun gun to subdue a highly irrational woman Friday afternoon.

Police received several reports of the woman’s threatening and potentially dangerous behaviour on Bernard Avenue in the downtown core.

RCMP say she was crying and running all over the roads while holding multiple hypodermic needles in her hands.

At one point she was laying on the ground before suddenly running out in front of traffic including a transit bus.

Police say the Conducted Energy Weapon was used, for officer and public safety, after verbal attempts to negotiate with the woman were unsuccessful.

She was arrested under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment.
