PENTICTON — High water levels on the Okanagan River are prompting an advisory from the provincial government.
“The public is urged to take extra care and caution,” said Okanagan-Shuswap District Public Safety and Protection officer Shaun Reimer.
The high levels are being caused by the spring snow melt.
“Residents and visitors are reminded that the Okanagan River’s deep and fast-flowing current requires heightened safety awareness during spring snowmelt,” said Reimer. “Adults are urged to keep children and pets under close supervision at all times when near the river banks. If going into the river, take precautionary measures such as using a safe watercraft and wearing a personal flotation device.”
According to the government this year’s snowpack is expected to cause a higher runoff than normal for the next several weeks.
