WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – Hockey fans in West Kelowna were celebrating an overtime goal by Kylar Hope Tuesday night giving the Warriors the win and an advance to the Fred Page Cup final series.

Hope scored with :58 seconds left in the 20 minute extra period, for a 3-2 final score against the Nanaimo Clippers. Hope had two goals during Tuesday night’s win, with an assist to Warrior Jonathan Desbien’s marker in the first period.

The 20-year-old Lashburn, Saskatchewan player has played three seasons with the Warriors and this is his last. Hope heads off to the NCAA University of Alaska-Fairbanks team after playoffs.

Hope was also named the BCHL Player of the Week last week.

“Hope led all scorers for the week that was with five goals and two assists in three games,” said a press release from the BCHL. “The native of Lashburn, Sask. had two third-period goals to force overtime in an eventual 4-3 loss to Chilliwack where he was 1st Star. He had two more goals plus a helper in a do-or-die 5-2 win in Nanaimo the next game and finished his week with a goal in a 4-3 loss to Chilliwack.”

West Kelowna’s Matthew Greenfield made 44 saves for the win Tuesday and Nanaimo’s Evan Johnson turned way 33 shots.

Clippers goals came from Matthew Hoover and Sheldon Rempal.

Chilliwack hosts the best of seven series beginning Friday, April 15 at Prospera Centre and will be complete by Sunday, April 24.

The winner of the Fred Page Cup goes on to the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup (WCC), Friday, April 29 in Estevan, Sask. The top-two teams at the WCC go to the RBC Cup national championship May 14 in Lloydminster, Alta.
