CHASE — A 60-year-old man from Chase is dead following a fatal hit and run in the north Shuswap on Sunday afternoon.

Police say he was riding a motorcycle towards Chase from Magna Bay when he was struck by a pickup truck that was travelling in the same direction.

RCMP from Chase say they were called around 2:15 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on the Squilax Anglemont highway near Magna Bay.

Police along with Central Interior Traffic Services (CITS) attended the scene of the accident where the deceased male was found and confirmed to be the lone rider of the motorcycle.

“Further investigation by RCMP and the SED collision re-constructionist unit determined a second vehicle was involved and had failed to remain at the scene of the collision,” said Sgt. Mike Pears with CITS in a news release.

Pears says the 55-year-old driver failed to remain at the scene but contacted police from his residence in Sorrento.

“RCMP members are investigating the possibility of drug impairment as a possible contributing factor on the part of the pickup truck driver,” said Pears.

“The driver is also being investigated for failing to remain at the scene of a collision.”

RCMP continue to investigate along with the B.C. Coroners Service.
