Southern Manitoba in for a cold start to April

Still some snow waiting to melt at The Forks. Linda Caldwell/submitted

WINNIPEG — As spring break enters its final few days, the weather certainly isn’t feeling very spring-like as we head into the weekend.

For the most part, this week has brought us seasonal or slightly above normal temperatures, but don’t put away those mitts just yet.

Arctic air is headed back to southern Manitoba and we’ll start to feel it beginning Thursday night with below normal low’s and a chance of showers.

Friday it’s doubtful we’ll make it past the freezing mark with cloud cover and periods of snow through the day. We’ll stay with those chilly temperatures through the weekend. Even Monday we are forecast for a high of only -3 C.

Over the next couple of nights it will be cold with the mercury dipping as low as -14 C.

Before we start to warm up midway through next week we could see more rain or flurries headed our way.

Of note, April 1, 2015 we hit 16 C which will be a far cry from our high this year. But we did cool down considerably much like the forecast this year. By the time we reached April 8 we were in double digit highs for pretty much the rest of month despite one or two cool downs.

Chilly days ahead. Source: WSI
