PICKERING, Ont. – Durham Regional Police say they’ve removed hundreds of firearms from a Pickering, Ont., home after the owner was found deceased.

Police say they were called on Monday afternoon and officers were sent to check on the well-being of a person who had not reported to work.

Officers found the body of a 72-year-old man, who was known to have previous medical issues, and investigators say his death is not considered suspicious.

Police say approximately 500 guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition have been seized from the home.

The man had numerous firearms registered to him, and the guns were found properly stored and secured.

Officers were still on scene Tuesday to finish clearing out the home.

Police say the man’s family has decided not to destroy the firearms, and are now considering other options such as a sale or auction.
