CALGARY – Four families were forced from their homes on Monday after a fire sparked in the community of Lincoln Park.

Emergency Crews were called to the 0-100 block of Lincoln Way S.W. at around 3 a.m. for reports of a fire.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames visible from the main-floor of a townhouse complex.

“We also received initial reports of a missing child potentially trapped within the building itself,” Battalion Chief Al Magwood said. “Upon initial, primary search [we] discovered all people were accounted for.”

The fire caused the evacuation of four townhouse units, displacing seven adults and five children.

Crews were able to extinguish the blaze, at which time residents living in the neighbouring townhouse suites were allowed to return home.

“There’s substantial damage to the initial suite, but on either side there’s very little,” Magwood said.

The Red Cross will be assisting the family living in the unit where the fire originated in finding alternate accommodation.

The cause of the fire is unknown but investigators believe it stated on the main level of the home.
