EDMONTON- An unseasonably warm winter shows no signs of abating this weekend as Mother Nature deals Edmontonians more mild March temperatures.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures reached 10 C in Alberta’s capital by Saturday afternoon and could rise to as high as 12 C.

“What a great day we had out here today,” Bruce Hardy, head teaching professional at Mill Woods Golf Course said. “We opened up the driving range for the first time today and boy oh boy, it’s been just a busy, busy place.”

Hardy said the driving range has never opened this early in the year and when it opened at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, anxious golfers were already lined up to swing at balls.

According to Environment Canada, the average high for March 12 in Edmonton is 1 C while the average low is -9 C.

On Friday, many Edmontonians took to the river valley for some fun in the sun or jumped on a rare opportunity to go for a patio drink in the winter.

Conditions could change early Sunday morning with the forecast calling for a 30 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries overnight.
