SASKATOON – How does Saskatchewan stack-up in terms of tobacco regulation? Not well, according to the president of the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA).

The group of doctors is calling for tighter regulations in three main areas:
- For e-cigarettes to be regulated like traditional tobacco;
- Banning all flavoured tobacco as a way of preventing smoking among youth;
- An outright ban on smoking all tobacco products, including shisha and hookah, in public spaces, both indoor and outdoor.
Right now, each municipality has its own set of regulations, but the SMA wants tighter tobacco legislation to become an issue that heats up our current election campaign. The SMA says provinces like Alberta and Ontario have made progress in tobacco control, while Saskatchewan has fallen behind.
What do you think about increasing tobacco regulation? Should Saskatchewan do more?
