In a new video released by Boston Dynamics, a dog meets a robot version of itself, and it wasn’t quite love at first sight.

The Massachusetts-based company owned by Google, is working towards developing robots that can be used in real-world scenarios.

The robo-dog named Spot, was designed and built for the U.S. military to carry equipment over rough terrain. But because it’s loud and easy to detect, the military dropped the pooch for its operations.

Spot requires a human driver to point it in the right direction but if you knock it over, it gets right back up. And if you push it, it also has the ability to find its balance.

About the size of a family pet, the new robo-dog can climb stairs, run and scramble up and down a steep slope.

Many of the robots built by Boston Dynamics are being developed in hopes that they can access areas where humans can’t go like in natural and human-caused disaster zones.
