Working in a restaurant has long been a reliable fallback for actors between jobs.
And now the success of Calgary performer Chris Rosamond’s recent film has put “movies on the menu” at the restaurant he helps manage.
Rosamond played a trapper in “The Revenant”, which received honours for best director and best actor at Sunday night’s Academy Awards show in Los Angeles.
It’s recognition that’s well-deserved, according to Rosamond.
“It was a great experience to work with that caliber of cast and that director” he said.
Rosamond holds the distinction of playing the first character to die in “The Revenant”, killed by an arrow in the opening scene, which led to some memorable moments on the set.
“All the arrow stuff was (computer-generated)” Rosamond said.
“But I fell into a real fire. Before every take they would put gasoline on my pants, so when I hit that fire I would spark up pretty good”.
“And then on the fifth take, when we finally nailed it, the whole crew and the director and everyone was screaming,” Rosamond recalled.
“It was pretty magical for sure, it was a really great experience”.
Another highlight was flying south to attend the movie’s premiere in Los Angeles.
“That was pretty special”.
