EDMONTON – Police have made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run pedestrian collision on Rabbit Hill Road that killed a 46-year-old man in 2014.

After a 16-month investigation, 22-year-old Sahil Arora was found out of the country and he was arrested last week.

“We were able to identify the vehicle thanks to a tip from the public, eventually locating the accused overseas,” Sgt. Brad Harsch said. “He agreed to return to Canada to face the charges.”

“The deceased’s family has been living this nightmare for the last year-and-a-half,” Harsch said. “Hopefully, in some small way, this will bring a level of closure for his wife and two children.”

Arora is charged with hit-and-run causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

“11:15 there was a knock on my door,” Gurpreet Sidhu said. “The police officers were at the door.”

Paramjeet was walking in a marked crosswalk in the area of Rabbit Hill Road and Hodgson Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle around 9:30 p.m. He was in a coma for several weeks before passing away from his injuries.

“It’s very, very tough to see any family go through this kind of loss, especially when they have two small children,” Sgt. Brad Harsch said at the time of the fatal crash.

The police and Paramjeet’s widow pleaded with the person responsible to come forward.

“Humans make mistakes,” Gurpreet said at the time. “Kindly come forward and so that we can have closure.”
