After a monster season with a Canada West recording-breaking 22 wins, the UBCO Heat women’s volleyball team has been crowned regular season champions.

The Okanagan club will now host the Canada West Championship, the ‘Final Four.’

The team’s been to the Final Four championship twice before but have never hosted and never won.

The UBCO Heat have only been part of the CIS for five years (before that they were part of the CCAA) and have quickly become the cream of the crop.

“Never in a million years did I dream that we’d be at the top of the standings with a chance to win the championship,” says head coach Steve Manuel. “For this group of student athletes to rise right to the top is unbelievable.”

It’s arguably most special for a core group of six seniors in their final year with the club.

“I’m trying not to think about it so I don’t get emotional,” says senior Katie Wuttunee, “but I’m just excited to get there and go as far as we can.”

“Especially with six of us, it’s been fun to share all these big moments with each other,” says senior Katy Klomps. “It’s a big feeling doing it for each other.”

The final four is underway March 4 and 5 at UBC Okanagan.
