A snowmobiler missing since last weekend after he fell into a lake while snowmobiling was found dead by Nova Scotia RCMP Friday morning.

According to police, the man’s body was found at about 11:20 a.m. “close to where the snowmobile went through the ice” on Black River Lake in Kings County.

“The death is not considered suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family of the snowmobiler, identified as 26-year-old Will Lapensee of New Ross, N.S.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“An unfortunate set of circumstances occurred that set an accidental tragedy in motion,” the page reads.

It then goes on to explain that Lapensee had been riding with a group of 12 machines, when five of them went through the ice. Four men were able to make it out, but Lapensee unfortunately wasn’t rescued.

The goal is to raise $25,000 for the two young children of Lapansee and his wife Lee Rafuse to “help ensure a future” for them.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 9:55 p.m. Saturday after reports that snowmobilers crossing the lake had gone through the ice.

“I could see him in the water, splashing and panicking and screaming,” Randy Thorpe, a witness, told Global News on Monday. “There was a lot of screaming and hollering.”
