OTTAWA — Liberal Kelowna-Lake Country MP Stephen Fuhr is moving up in the world of politics.

The retired air force major has been appointed Chair of the Standing Committee on National Defence.

The Standing Committee on National Defence deals with matters regarding national defence; caring for injured or ill veterans and maintaining readiness of the Canada Forces.

“It is an honour to be elected Chair of the Committee,” says Fuhr.  “I look forward to working with my colleagues on issues of importance and providing meaningful input to the government on matters of defence.”

Fuhr shook the political landscape in Kelowna-Lake Country after defeating incumbent Conservative Ron Cannan in the 2015 federal election by more than 3,000 votes.
