EDMONTON- They hit the slopes at Edmonton’s Snow Valley Ski Club with smiles on their faces.
“You’ll see their faces coming down the hill and it will be all worth it,” said Charlene Grey, sports coordinator with Special Olympics Edmonton.
Over 50 Special Olympics athletes from across Alberta and Saskatchewan are in Edmonton this weekend preparing for alpine skiing events ahead of next month’s national competition in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.

“It’s just about fun competition, bringing all the athletes together,” Grey added. “They do as best as the athletes can do.”
The weekend is part of an open invitational, giving athletes the opportunity to get some final training in.
Ninety-five athletes from Alberta will head to the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games. The national competition serves as a qualifier for the 2017 World Games in Austria.
