Quebecer in notorious incest case signs peace bond after arrest

MONTREAL – A convicted Quebec pedophile known as the Monster of Magog, who served prison time for sexually assaulting his adult daughter, was arrested this week on suspicion of attempting to lure a minor.

Police in Magog said Rénald Côté was detained briefly and released after signing a peace bond.

A spokesman said Côté allegedly offered a nine-year-old girl candy a little more than a month ago in front of his home.

The girl refused and a witness to the exchange filed a complaint, which police used to obtain a warrant seeking a bond against Côté .

Police said no criminal charges have been laid and Côté was released Thursday after agreeing to numerous conditions and a $500 deposit.

He was convicted in 2003 of raping his daughter Isabelle throughout her childhood and later when she was terminally ill.

Isabelle died of ovarian cancer at the age of 22.

Her two brothers were also convicted of raping her.

Côté will return to a provincial court April 5 to determine whether the bond conditions should be extended.
