Once again Americans are threatening to move to Canada. This time, however, it’s if real estate mogul Donald Trump becomes president.
Many south of the border took to social media following the New Hampshire primary to voice their threats of packing up and making a run for the Great White North if Trump becomes president.
It appears the idle threats were made just after the republican presidential candidate was declared winner of Tuesday’s primary.
“If y’all let Donald Trump become president…I swear I’m packing my family up and moving to Canada,” Shadney Houston tweeted.
“On the bright side, if Donald Trump becomes president, Canada is a beautiful place to live,” another tweeted.
Trump took the Republican primary with 35 per cent of the vote, while Ohio Gov. John Kasich took in just shy of 16 per cent of votes.
“We are going to do something so good and so fast and so strong and the world is going to respect us again. Believe me,” Trump said following his victory.
On the Democratic side of the primary, Bernie Sanders took 60 per cent of the votes compared to Hillary Clinton’s 38 per cent.
“We have sent the message that will echo from Wall Street to Washington, from Maine to California,” Sanders said following hi win. “The government of our great country belongs to all of the people and not just a handful of wealthy campaign contributors and their super packs.”
This isn’t the first time unhappy Americans have threatened to move to Canada. In November, the threat was made over the States’ plan to allow Syrian refugees in the country, a plan that Canada had already set in motion.
And in the summer of 2015, social media lit up with the same threat after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states. Canada had legalized same sex marriage in 2005.
