Most days there wouldn’t be much pedestrian traffic along Spring Garden Road in Halifax when it’s raining, but on Friday, most people were taking the wet weather in stride.
“I love it. I’ll take rain over snow this time of year,” said Alaa George.
A year ago, there were more than 30 centimetres of snow on the ground in the Halifax-area. The region was hit hard time and time again with winter wallops, making it one of the worst years many can remember.

“It was pretty crazy,” said Clinton Chapdelaine, talking about last winter. “I remember one day it took me and my brother two full days to shovel out all the snow. It was pretty bad.”
“I thought it was brutal,” said George.
“I thought it was a lot of snow. It was frustrating to the point I was like can we just buy a one way ticket somewhere and never come back?”
Flash forward to this week and it’s a completely different story. People are out enjoying and embracing the warmer winter weather this season, even if it is a little wet. Instead of snow banks piled high, green grass is actually showing throughout most of the city.
“The winter has been marvellous,” said Jeanne Christie. “Just a little bit of snow, haven’t had to stay in the house, walk everyday, just been great.”
“For people who love snow they must be hating it,” said Andrea MacEachern. “But I like it because it might be an early Spring.”

“I’m kind of hoping that that means spring’s around the corner because, yeah, I’m not a fan of all the snow,” added Chapdelaine.
While most people aren’t complaining, not everyone is a fan of all the rain.
“I think last year was too much snow and this year is too wet,” said Jennifer Kim, who wishes this winter could me a meet in the middle between all of last year’s snow, and this season’s milder season.
Despite a little bit of snow coming up this weekend, the weather is forecast to stay nice and mild for the near future.
