Toronto to invest $50 million more in TTC, reduce subway delays by 50 per cent

The City of Toronto plans to invest an additional $50 million to its 2016 budget to improve public transit service and reduce subway delays by 50 per cent by 2019.

“This proves not only we are adding more service and improving service and restoring services cut by my predecessor, but we are also focused, the team is focused on making sure the service is better,” Mayor John Tory said during a press conference Monday morning at the TTC Davisville car house.

Tory said he hopes to have further delays reduced by adding new repair staff and adding six new work cars for the TTC maintenance fleet.

“They are an essential parts of making the system run better,” said Tory.

Tory also said the addition of extra subway trains to daily service has reduced the length of delays on Line 1 by 25 per cent and Line 2 by 9 per cent compared to the previous year.

Tory also mentioned TTC customer satisfaction hit an all time high last year of 81 per cent.
