The Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Section is investigating the city’s first murder of 2016.

Constable Brian Montague said officers were called to an apartment building on the 2400-block of Granville Street around 11 p.m. Saturday night after a body was found.

“When we arrived, it wasn’t exactly clear what had occurred, but we were able to determine within a relatively short period of time that it had been a murder,” he said.

The victim is 40-year-old Christopher Denis Kwik, who did not live in the apartment. Montague said he was known to police because of minor offences.

The attack appears to be targeted, says Montague, but the motive is unknown.
