An online fundraiser has been launched to help the owner of a Delta barn that was destroyed in a massive fire, in which dozens of animals needed to be rescued.

Bright orange flames consumed the structure early Thursday morning, as the fire broke out just after midnight at the Loranda Stables and Kitty Cottage on 28th Avenue and South Fraser Perimeter Road.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Luckily, all of the animals got out safely. There were reports a dozen horses were saved along with several cats.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Over $11,000 has been raised so far.

Personal friend Stephanie Beharrell says the money will help barn owner Micaela Robinson get a fresh start and get back to doing what she loves.

“Micaela is a person who is there for her community,” says  Beharrell. “She’s taken in homeless people off the streets. She has a heart of gold.”

Beharrell says Robinson is a single mom, who works two jobs on top of running the stables, and she hopes the money raised will help her regain her footing.
