Police said the semi was pulling out of a commercial yard and onto the road when its trailer was hit by a car carrying four people.
They said the car tried to brake before the crash occurred.
One passenger in the car was pronounced dead on scene. The other people travelling in the car were rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the driver of the semi was not hurt.
RCMP said road conditions were slippery at the time and that alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
