McDonald’s Japan has created chocolate-drizzled french fries

Here in Canada we slather our french fries with gravy and cheese curds. But in Japan, it appears, they will soon be dousing them in white and milk chocolate.

McDonald’s used Twitter to announce the introduction of the McChoco Potato to their Japanese menu on Jan. 26. Available for a limited time only, it will feature the company’s famous french fries doused in white and milk chocolate.

Unsurprisingly, the idea has blown people’s minds across the Internet.

Some even questioned whether the announcement was real.

It’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing these chocolate-drizzled fries on North American menus any time soon. “[We’re] always evaluating our offerings to meet the needs and wants of our customers,” says McDonald’s Canada spokesperson Michelle Yao, “but we currently have no plans to offer chocolate fries in Canada.”

The fast-food chain has a history of creating unique menu items for some of its international outposts. There was the Modern Chinese Burger — which included a grey bun, a pork patty, bacon and a rich dressing — as well as the Philippines’ Chicken McDo with spaghetti. Our favourite? The McLobster, the company’s version of a lobster roll which has been available in Atlantic Canada for over decade.
