MONTREAL – There may be some good news for Quebecers trying to find a family doctor in the province.
According to the Quebec College of Physicians, there were 268 more doctors in Quebec in 2015 than the previous year.
The total number of practicing doctors in the province rose to 19,808 as of Dec. 31 2015 – that translates to 125 more family doctors in the province.
About 48 per cent of active doctors are female, with the number of women in medical school rising steadily.
The organization estimated that gender parity could be reached within the next couple years.
Sixty two per cent of registered medical students in the province last year were women.
