Man’s attempt to evade traffic violation foiled by Saskatoon police dog

SASKATOON – A 37-year-old man is facing numerous charges after attempting to evade Saskatoon police Wednesday. Just before 1 a.m. CT, officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 400-block of Avenue H South.

The suspect vehicle fled from police and a short pursuit ensued but was aborted due to public safety.

Police located the suspect vehicle later and used tire deflation devices to get it to stop in the Meadowgreen neighbourhood. The lone occupant then abandoned the vehicle on foot.

A police dog was deployed and helped with apprehending the man.

MD Ambulance took the suspect with injuries consistent with dog bites to hospital. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released into police custody.

The accused is facing charges that include failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and possession of methamphetamine. He is expected to appear in Saskatoon provincial court Wednesday afternoon.
