REGINA – Black Monday in the NFL could prove to be a silver lining for Saskatchewan born Offensive Linemen Ben Heenan and Brett Jones.
In Indianapolis, the Colts gave new four-year contracts to General Manager Ryan Grigson and Head Coach Chuck Pagano. What does this mean for former Saskatchewan Roughrider Ben Heenan? This is the regime that brought the 25-year-old to Indy. Here’s a timeline of Heenan’s year with the Colts:
- Signed by the Colts to the practice squad on November 3, 2015.
- Waived by the Colts on August 7, 2015.
- Signed by the Colts as a free agent on February 4, 2015.
In August, Heenan suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee and the Colts made the decision to waive him with an injury settlement . At the time Colts Head Coach made note of their like for the Grand Coulee product and that became evident when the club brought Heenan back to the practice squad in November.
With the Colts brass now in place for the next 4-years it is potentially good news for Heenan who is clearly thought highly of by Grigson and Pagano.
In New York things are not quite as clear for Brett Jones. The Weyburn product has been on the Giants injured reserve list since early September after suffering an MCL sprain. On Monday Head Coach Tom Coughlin and the Giants parted ways possibly leaving some uncertainty as to the future of the roster.
According to overthecap.com Jones is set to earn just over a million dollars over the next two seasons but that none of it is guaranteed. Meaning it would cost nothing for the Giants to part ways with the 24 year old.
