Family escapes without injury after fire destroys their home in Trenton

TRENTON, N.S. – A family of five is healthy and safe Monday after an early morning fire destroyed their home in a duplex on Park Street in Trenton.

The Red Cross says the family was taken to hospital and briefly checked for smoke inhalation, then given a temporary place to live as well as clothes and food after the fire.

Another family of four, living in the other side of the duplex, were evacuated from their home, but allowed to go back once the fire was out.

New Glasgow Regional Police say the fire started at about 4:30 a.m., and is still being investigated.
