An alert citizen is credited with finding a stolen U-Haul truck carrying all the possessions of a Saskatchewan family who were hoping for a new start in B.C.

The truck was spotted on New Year’s Day, abandoned in a Costco parking lot in Abbotsford. Only three boxes of personal photos and other mementos were left inside.

The Suiker family is moving to Victoria, and on Dec. 30, someone stole the truck packed with their belongings after they made a stop in Surrey.

Over the next few weeks, the Abbotsford Police Department along with the patrol division and Emergency Response Team located the contents missing from the U-Haul.

On Jan. 22, two searches were done at two residences in a rural area of east Abbotsford; where a large amount of the family’s property was recovered.
