Politicians unite on last day of 2015 in last-ditch effort to keep Lakeside Academy alive

DORVAL – A coalition of parents and local politicians met Thursday with Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) chairperson, Suanne Stein Day.

The meeting took place at Dorval City Hall and is part of a broader attempt to reverse the LBPSB’s recent decision to close Lakeside Academy.

That  decision can only be overturned if new information is brought to the board’s attention.

Day  wouldn’t confirm whether new information surfaced at the meeting, but she did say there were new ideas.

As the last remaining English high school in Lachine and Dorval, Lakeside Academy is a significant part of the community.

Maja Vodanovic, borough councillor for Lachine, told Global News that at the meeting, she proposed sharing resources and facilities between the French and English school boards as a possible solution.

Both the mayors of Lachine and Dorval were optimistic that Lakeside would stay alive.

They said the issues involved were of such importance that it justified devoting some holiday time to sit around the table and discuss solutions.

Jennifer Park is the school parent who launched the Save Lakeside  campaign. Her New Year’s resolution is to somehow find a way to keep Lakeside Academy open.
