WINNIPEG — The Manitoba government and its unionized employees have reached a tentative contract.
Manitoba Government and General Employees Union president Michelle Gawronsky says no details will be released until the 14,000 members have seen and voted on the deal.
The last contract expired in March 2014.
Bargaining committee members donned red T-shirts that said “Still without a contract” and sat facing government MLAs during question period on Dec. 1 to show its displeasure with how long it was taking to reach a deal.
If members vote to accept the deal, the two sides can avoid arbitration talks that were set to begin in May.
Gawronsky says union officials will meet with members in the next few weeks to explain the contract.
“We’ve reached a tentative deal that our bargaining team feels was good enough to take out to our members,” Gawronsky said.
