Stray bullet nearly hits Lethbridge man in Red Deer motel room

LETHBRIDGE — A Lethbridge man feels lucky to be alive after a bullet whizzed through the wall of his motel room in Red Deer, Alberta last week.

Jason Campbell was staying at Motel 6 in Red Deer when he heard a loud bang.

“It sounded like something was coming from the ceiling,” said Campbell. “It was a loud bang — it shook the whole room.”

Shortly after, Campbell noticed a hole in the wall of his motel room and shotgun pellets scattered on his bed.

“It would have went through my head,” he said.

RCMP said that by the time investigators arrived, the guests staying in the room where the shots were fired had already left the motel. Investigators are now asking the public to help track down the suspects and have released images from surveillance footage.

“It was something off TV,” said Campbell. “I didn’t think it would happen to me.”

Police have identified the woman who booked the room and are looking for her, but they are not releasing her identity at this time.

Campbell said he is counting his blessings that he wasn’t lying in bed when that stray bullet went through the wall.

“I have never had an issue like this before with a hotel and it was really scary,” he added.
