WATCH: Eyes wide open for Toronto’s 10-week-old giant panda cubs

TORONTO – Those furry white and black giant panda cubs are getting cuter by the day and have finally fully opened their eyes at 10 weeks old.

The Toronto Zoo said they are also becoming much more mobile and their growth is right on schedule.

The larger cub weighs just over 3 kilograms and is 56.5 centimetres in length while the smaller one is almost 2.5 kilograms and 50 centimetres in length.

Zoo officials said Er Shun, the cubs’ mother, has been doing a fantastic job taking care of and nursing her young.

“Since the birth of her twins, Er Shun has shown excellent maternal instincts with both giant panda cubs,” the zoo said in a media release.

“The strong bond she has formed with each of the cubs is remarkable, and Toronto Zoo staff remain optimistic it will continue when both cubs are with mom at approximately four months of age.”

The zoo has yet to set a timetable when the cubs will be available for public viewing.

The Calgary Zoo announced earlier this month the baby pandas, along with Er Shun and Da Mao, will be moved out west in 2018.
