Jaws of life needed to pull driver from Montreal wreck

MONTREAL – Shortly before 6:00 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a 911 call about a car crash on Notre-Dame Street East.

When officers arrived at the scene, of the collision they found a man in his 30s unconscious behind the wheel.

Police believe the man was heading east on Notre-Dame when he lost control of his car and crashed into a lamp post.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to pull the driver from the wreck.

He was still unconscious when he was taken to hospital but doctors do not fear for his life.

Police spokesman Manuel Couture told Global News that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and that a sample has been requested.

Notre-Dame Street East which was closed to traffic between Alphonse D Roy and Davidson streets following the crash, has since been reopened.
