CALGARY – The legal battle between Mayor Naheed Nenshi and a longtime Calgary homebuilder has come to an end.
Cal Wenzel dropped his lawsuit Tuesday.
The Shane Homes CEO was seeking $6-million in damages for remarks made by the mayor during the 2013 election campaign.
The comments followed the release of a secretly taped video uncovered by Global News.
In it, Wenzel spoke about the need to defeat city councillors who were considered anti-development.

In a media interview, Nenshi referenced the movie The Godfather in relation to Wenzel. In a joint statement, he now retracts that comment and apologizes for it:
The mayor had always denied the defamation allegation and filed his own statement of defence.
A trial was scheduled for this coming February, but, on Tuesday, the two sides came to a mutual agreement and settled the lawsuit – without costs.
Cal Wenzel and Mayor Nenshi have agreed to keep all terms of the settlement confidential.
