Man faces 45 charges linked to Toronto break-and-enter investigation

TORONTO — A 25-year-old Toronto man faces 45 charges in connection to a series of residential break-and-enters in the GTA, after a homeowner says he caught the suspect red-handed.

Police said the suspect would break into the homes of alleged victims during the nighttime hours while the occupants were still home.

Local resident Kevin Liu said he stepped onto his deck to make a phone call at about 3 a.m. Thursday, when he discovered a man inside of his home while his family was asleep upstairs in the Leslie Street and Steeles Avenue area.

“He was inside using the flashlight and I saw him from here,” said Liu, adding that he then contacted police.

“I just want to make sure he’s on the first floor, not going up to the second floor … my mom, wife and two kids were sleeping.”

Liu added that the suspect then barricaded himself in a basement room, which is when police broke down the door and arrested the suspect.

“I just feel very lucky and appreciate the police came that quick,” he said. “After that I installed a security system.”

Keron Kenton, 25, of Toronto was arrested on Thursday and charged with 16 counts of break-and-enter, nine counts of break-and-enter with intent, two counts of trespassing at night, 17 counts of failing to comply with a probation order, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of burglars’ tools.
