Two Sask. hockey players invited to Canada’s junior selection camp

TORONTO – Dylan Strome and Mitch Marner are the two of the big names invited to Canada’s selection camp for the world junior hockey championship.

The two NHL draft picks were part of the 30-man roster unveiled by Hockey Canada on Tuesday.

Rourke Cartier of Saskatoon who plays for the Kelowna Rockets and Hayden Fleury of Carlyle who plays for Red Deer have also been invited to the selection camp. Moose Jaw Warriors forward Brayden Point who hails from Calgary has also been invited to camp

Lawson Crouse, Joe Hicketts and Point return from Canada’s gold-medal winning team in 2015.

The 30-man roster will participate in a selection camp from Dec. 10 to 14.

“We’re looking to assemble the best possible team to represent the country in Helsinki at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. With the talent we have attending camp, it’s going to come down to some difficult decisions for us in selecting the players who make the final team,” Scott Salmond, vice-president of hockey operations and national teams for Hockey Canada, said in a statement.

Team Canada’s first game of the tournament will be against the United states on December 26th.
