Winnipeg Goldeyes sign outfielder from Japan league

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Goldeyes have looked overseas for help in their outfielder.

The Goldeyes signed outfielder Josh Romanski after he played for Mitsubishi of the Japan Industrial League last season.

Romanski, 29, returns to North America after playing for the Gary Southshore Railcats in 2014 where he hit .311 with seven home runs and 60 RBI. He’s a former pitcher and was originally drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2005. He re-entered the draft in 2008 where he was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers. He also spent time in the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox farm systems. Romanski also helped the United States win a silver medal at the 2007 Pan-Am Games.

“We’re excited to add Josh Romanski to the club,” Goldeyes manager Rick Forney said through a media release. “Josh had a great season with
the RailCats in 2014, and we expect him to be a key contributor both offensively and defensively in 2016.”
